Naunihal Girls' Shelter

To provide a nurturing space for children in need of safe shelter, the Naunihal Special Home for Girls opened at Plot 20, Sector 5, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai on 27th October 2010. Currently the home provides shelter for 32 girls. The Naunihal home became a necessary addition to the Prerana community when conventional institutions for displaced children were found unable to properly accommodate girl children in especially distressed and dangerous circumstances. In addition to a supportive loving environment that understands the needs of these children the Naunihal home provides the girls with educational programs, medical check-ups, arranges meeting with the girls’ mothers or guardians and provides additional recreational activities.

Pratishtha is a vocational training project that is established within the Naunihal Girls’ Shelter. Pratishtha has so far undertaken residential vocational training in hospitality and catering, house-keeping, advanced embroidery, jewel making, fuel filling at petrol pumps, beauty care, etc. by engaging Institute of Technology and Management (ITM), Sundaram Jewels, Hotel Taj, BPCL, SNDT University and others. Sponsors like, UNIFEM, CRS, IOM, L & T Trust and others have so far helped Pratishtha in its work. The ITM Institute of Hospitality Management and Catering Technology, Navi Mumbai agreed to conduct biannual training programmes of 4 months duration each for a batch of 25 girls each in catering and hospitality at its own premises completely free of charges. So far 6 batches have completed their training in Hospitality and Catering Technology.
